Ok, so I won’t go so far as to say rules are NEVER, EVER meant to be broken, but for the most part… rules are there for a reason. Right?
A few days ago, hubby and I took the three littles to that restaurant with the famous “M” symbol.
We have one close to us that has a great play area. Nice and big with plenty of room for them to run around. {Let me preface by saying, it had been raining for the last three days, so big and spacious with plenty of room to run around was a must at this point!}
My kids have always been ones to make fast friends anywhere we go, so by the end of our play time, they’ve made 20 “bestest friends.” And usually, we get a good crop of friendly, sweet kids that they really enjoy playing with.
There are times however, when we end up with “those kids”. I know you know what I’m talking about. The one’s who are so ear piercingly loud you wished you’d brought your ear plugs. However, noise… I can deal with (um have you heard my house when all six of my kids are on a sugar high?}. BUT, it’s when they run “up the slide” knocking down everyone going down this slide who get’s in their way. They climb on the outside of the play area, swinging around like a monkey, taking out the little one that just happens to get in their way. They take their happy meal toys in the playarea with them dropping them on heads or leaving them sitting in just the right place for a little one to crawl on and implant their knee on it – causing a blood curdling scream which resonates even louder because of the awesome acoustics inside of the tunnel their crawling through!
Or, one of my all time pet peeves…. no socks…
Seriously, this one little rule is mentioned before you walk in the door and a couple of times throughout the play-area. It bugs the snot out of me.
And you know, I don’t blame the kids. Kids will be… well kids. They are, after-all, just doing what they are allowed to get away with. It’s the parents. And really, truly, I don’t make it a habit of telling parent’s how to “parent” their kids. To each their own. But when their children’s behavior starts to affect the safety of mine… it really get’s my goat.
The rules… they really are NOT that difficult to follow, and it REALLY does make a more enjoyable experience for everyone.
I mean, I like those yummy, salty french fries as much as the next guy….
But there is a reason why there is a “no food” rule for the play area… I mean I know how to do the Heimlich maneuver, but I’d really rather not have to!
