While being pregnant is without a doubt a beautiful and wonderful time in a woman’s life, it can also be one of the hardest times with the nausea, back-aches, sleep deprivation, and many other ailments that we are blessed with while carrying our precious gifts.
I am currently pregnant with blessing number eight and unfortunately, each pregnancy I have has gotten harder. There are a few essential oils and essential oil products that I have found have helped throughout my pregnancy. These are a few of my favorite…
{Please keep in mind that all the oils I am will refer to are Young Living brand as these are the ONLY ones I would feel comfortable recommending for use on skin or ingesting – all of the recommended oils and more description can be found here: Young Living}.
For nausea/morning sickness {or what I always have… all day sickness}, I have found a few different things that have helped:
Peppermint Oil – The is a FANTASTIC oil because you can use it for so many different ailments (definitely a staple oil to have!). It’s great for nausea/morning sickness, headaches and constipation. For nausea or morning sickness, apply one drop directly on the tongue. This is considered a “hot oil” and some might be sensitive to it, so you can also put one drop in a few ounces of water (in a glass only – don’t ever use plastic when mixing oils as they will react with petrochemical products) and drink it. Another way to use the peppermint is to put a drop in the hands and cup over your mouth and nose and inhale, or put the oil in a diffuser to breathe it in. Any of these techniques you can do as often as you feel the nausea coming on.
For other ailments like headaches or constipation, I would recommend diluting the peppermint oil in a 1:1 ratio with a good vegetable oil before rubbing on to your skin. I personally can handle straight peppermint oil on my skin, but a lot of people can’t. I have to dilute it when I use it on a couple of my kiddos.
Lemon Oil – Another oil that is good for nausea. Mix five or so drops (to taste) with a quart of water in a glass container and sip on it throughout the day
Di-Gize – This is another great all-in-one oil with many uses. It is great for nausea, heartburn, and constipation {fun stuff!}. Rub this over your belly and put a drop on your finger and the rub on the inside of your cheeks for nausea and heartburn. For constipation apply to your lower abdomen and the bottom of your feet.
When I am pregnant, I also find I have a harder time sleeping, or getting back to sleep after several middle-of-the-night bathroom trips. There are two oils I have found that really aid in getting back to sleep: Peace & Calming and Lavender. These are great in a diffuser, applied to the bottom of your feet, or a few drops on your pillow!
Back aches and sciatica pain are also major problems for many pregnant women, especially towards the end of the pregnancy. The Deep Relief Roll-On works GREAT for this and so does another one I like called Aroma Siez. Both of these can be applied directly to the area you are feeling the pain.
The great thing about all the oils mentioned above is that they have so many more uses than even mentioned above, so they can really go a long way.
There are several other things I have found useful during my pregnancy. I’ll just briefly list them, but if you have any questions about them or want further information, just leave me a comment and let me know! (To see a further description off all that I have mentioned, just click here: Young Living and go over to Product Line and just type in the name of the one you want to look up.)
For Prenatal Vitamins I use Master Hers.
For extra energy and to also help with the nausea I take NingXia Red.
I suffer from Pubis Diastasis during pregnancy. This is an abnormally wide gap between the two pubic bones and is VERY painful – especially walking the further along you get in your pregnancy. To combat this I take BLM capsules (for strengthening the bones and muscles) and use Rose Ointment and Idaho Balsam Fir with I apply directly over the pubic area.
What about you? Do you have any pregnancy ailments that I haven’t mentioned? Let me know and I’ll do my best to answer your questions!

I took NingXia Red and Ocotea for my high blood sugar. When ever my blood sugar skyrocketed I took 3 drops of Ocotea under my tongue, waited 20 minutes and retested, I repeated this until the blood sugar was back under control. The NingXia Rad I too twice a day to also help the blood sugar.
Great tips for using essential oils!

The deep relief roll-on sounds great ~ I’m currently dealing with some sciatic and round ligament pain, so anything to help relieve that a bit would be great =)
Wow, these essential oils are so fascinating. I’m definitely getting more and more interested in the idea! They used to kind of scare me, lol.

Anne, I know exactly what you mean. Before I started using them, I was really not sure at all, but the more research I did and the more I began using them and saw the incredible benefits, the more I have been convinced!!
I am just starting to find out some uses of essential oils. I am interested in the anti microbial properties of tea tree oil especially.
A great resource that helped me in my pregnancy and now with my newborn is this little book http://www.abundanthealth4u.com/Book_Gentle_Babies_p/8922.htm They also have a great quick reference guide http://www.abundanthealth4u.com/Book_Quick_Reference_Guide_p/1002.htm
Yes, I actually mention this book in Day 3 AND I’m giving a copy a way for the big giveaway!
I am currently pregnant and have found Heritage Essential Oils Bones and Joints blend to be SO very, VERY helpful! With my daughter’s pregnancy, I was in absolute AGONY (especially in the mornings–I literally almost couldn’t walk from the pain) from the end of my second trimester. My pubic bone was CONSTANTLY popping out of joint and while chiropractic certainly helped, at $35 a time plus a 45 minute trip to get there (+ gas!) it wasn’t something I could do every day! When I started having hip/pelvic/pubic pains even earlier this pregnancy, I was desperate to try something so I tried Heritage EO’s Bones and Joints blend (somewhat skeptically) after a few days, I KNEW that it was working and now that I’m almost 29 weeks, I am more limber than ever and can roll over in bed without the excruciating pain that I experienced with my previous pregnancy!
