Essential Oils for Children {5 Days of Essential Oils}

With six children running around our home, I ALWAYS have someone coming to me with a cut, scrap or bruise… some kind of ouchie for mama to kiss and make better. And oftentimes, before they even come running to me, they go into my room to get the “purple medicine”, otherwise known as lavender. I know I’ve mentioned this before, but lavender is a serious staple in our home. We go through more lavender probably more than other other essential oil.

(I only recommend using Young Living Essential Oils. Click here: Day 1 to see why}

Another staple is peppermint oil. I can usually use peppermint oil “neat” (or without diluting it). However, I have some kids that are a bit more sensitive to it, so we dilute with a good V-6 oil. When my children complain of stomach aches or are throwing up, peppermint oil is the first thing I reach for. I rub it on their tummies and have them inhale it as well. The only thing you have to make sure of it that the kids don’t touch their hands to the area you’ve put the oil on and then touch their eyes. It won’t do any harm, but it will sting!

For respiratory infections, coughs and congestion, the first thing we reach for is an oil called RC. RC is a combination of several oils such as: eucalyptus, marjoram, lavender, tsuga, and peppermint oil just to name a few. We rub this on the chest and bottom of feet. I also love to diffuse this oil while the children are sleeping at night when dealing with the congestion and such, since it always seems worse at night.

Thieves is another great oil we keep on hand. We keep this in spray form too so that I can spray down the house at first sign of sickness! It has wonderful antibacterial properties. It’s another good one to diffuse for when you have a run of colds going through the house.

If you are looking for a place to “start” with essential oils these are ones that I would definitely recommend having on hand at all times. These four are a great place to start and then build from there.

I haven’t even touched on the incredible cleaning products and supplements that are made with essential oils (or that you can make yourself!). Feel free to visit Young Living to get further information on all of the great essential oils resources. Or you can leave a comment or shoot me an email!

    I have a 21 yr old son who has had stomach ailments. Acid reflux or something. We have never seen a doctor but I am at the point to take him but after reading your blog I am interested in trying peppermint. I hope I win your contest so I can learn more about using essential oils. I have an son whom we adopted from Ethiopia this year and we just got done with 3 bottles of expensive medication for scalp fungus. I am sure oils would help his poor head heal up after years of this fungus eating his scalp..again I am all ears and wanting to learn!

    Hi Chelsey! I ordered and used the melrose and lavender oils per your suggestion for my baby’s eczema and it worked great! Thank you! Now he has a runny/stuffy nose(from a cold I’m pretty sure). What would you suggest for that?
